Salvestrols are plant nutrients which are converted inside cancerous cells, by a specific enzyme CYP1B1, into compounds that can destroy the diseased cell. Salvestrols are a natural defense against cancer and can be essential to maintaining good health. Since our body is unable to manufacture them, these phytonutrients must be obtained through the diet.
The chemical composition of salvestrols is varied, but they all share a very important trait in that they react with an enzyme called CYP1B1. When salvestrols interact with CYP1B1, it converts into a new substance that promotes the programmed death of the cancer cell, a process medically known as apoptosis. It should be noted that only cancerous cells possess CYP1B1, and therefore only these cells will die and the normal, healthy cells are not affected.
This astonishing discovery is the result of the work of two scientists, Dan Burke and Gerry Potter. Dan Burke’s work helped identify the tumor markers and Gerry Potter created pro-drugs like Aberaterone, that utilize the CYP enzyme as a target to kill cancerous cells. While these pro-drugs show promising results, they are still in the phase of clinical trials and therefore will not be available for at least a few years.
Since the Western type diet lacks fresh fruits and vegetables, many North Americans will lack optimal amounts of salvestrols, which are found in high amounts in organically grown foods. In addition, the widespread use of fungicides have further depleted the plants of this essential phytonutrient. Therefore, diet alone cannot provide enough salvestrols to fight diseases such as cancer. Luckily, supplements that contain high doses of salvestrols had been created.
Therapeutic effect of Salvestrols supplements
In a research study featured in the September 2012 issue of “Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine”, a number of case studies have been recorded by the authors of this project. For example:
A case of stage 1 breast cancer in a 76 year old lady who responded extremely well. After only one month of taking salvestrol supplements, the tumor was gone, as confirmed by imaging studies ordered by her physician.
A squamous cell carcinoma of the anus diagnosed in a 46 year old man resolved after six weeks of treatment using salvestrol, a cream containing borage oil, and a healthy diet/lifestyle.
An 80 year old lady diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, with a cancerous tumor the size of an egg, started salvestrols. By the end of the third month, the tumor disappeared and her cancer specialist could not find any evidence of cancer.
Non-malignant tumors also respond to this supplement as demonstrated by a patient suffering from a benign enlarged prostate. He noted significant improvement of his symptoms after trying the prescription drug Flomax with no success.
While more research is needed to fully confirm the benefits of Salvestrols, these case studies show indeed promising results.
